Lineapelle New York stands out while tackling US market complexity

Italian leather and fashion materials stand out to provide the US fashion system, affected by complex instability, with creativity and product solutions. Lineapelle New York, which took place at Metropolitan Pavilion on July 17-18, depicted a lively and bright market.

Such market looks at product and process innovation, along with quality, but, at the same time, is rather concerned about economic and commercial issues. 125 exhibitors took part in Lineapelle New York, on its 36th edition, therefore presenting in the Big Apple a vast preview of their Fall-Winter 2019-2020 collections.

The agenda of the fair event, full of encounters between visitors and exhibitors, was made even more bustling thanks to a number of initiatives and seminars that fully met the demand for innovation coming from US fashion industry professionals.

They held three fashion presentations in total, two on the first day and the third one on day 2, followed by “Know Your Leather”, a technical seminar presented by Lineapelle Training, and, subsequently, by “Crafting Innovation”, a creative workshop set by Orietta Pellizzari, a fashion advisor, and Raphael Lombardo, a leather goods expert, in collaboration with T-Project showroom. Furthermore, the Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium introduced “The Tuscan Way. Vegetable leather: what is it about and what is its story?” seminar, coordinated by Diane Ellen Becker (a fashion and design look consultant) and Manuel Casella (a counselor of the Consortium and Sales Manager at Conceria Puccini). On top of that, the Consortium set up, at Lineapelle New York, “Shoes from Craft the Leather”: on the exhibition they showed a selected sample of shoes made by young designers, who participate in the training project, of the same name, every year.

All the events and seminars did arouse the curiosity of visitors, who also came across an information desk set up by SSIP (Stazione Sperimentale per l’Industria delle Pelli e delle Materie Concianti), the Italian Leather Research Institute. The United States are still the perfect playground for fashion made in Italy. Yet the industry (footwear in particular) is currently concerned a great deal about the commercial war between Trump’s government and America’s international partners, Europe and Asia. Such distress factors affect professionals and their ability to make plans properly. Next Lineapelle New York edition will take place on 30-31 January 2019.
